Puri, Aug 19: The doctors at the Puri District Headquarters hospital on Thursday had ceased work citing the failure of the district administration to provide security to them after relatives of a patient, who died at the hospital on Wednesday night, ransacked the hospital premises.

However, yesterday a meeting was held at the CDMO’s office, under the chairmanship of Puri Additional Collector Uddhab Charna Majhi, where the additional SP and specialists of all the eleven departments of the hospital discussed about the security of the doctors. Later, after an assurance by the Puri SP Sarthak Sarangi for 24X7 security to the doctors, the cease work stir by the doctors was called off yesterday.

Sarangi said that he had ordered deployment of an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) and four police constables in the hospital. But as there is no permanent outpost in the hospital, the police platoons are deployed on a rotation basis. He further added that one more force has been deployed yesterday at the traffic aid post adjacent to the hospital for round-the-clock security.

The doctors had alleged that such incidents of ransacking and attack on the doctors at the hospital are rising day by day.

To this complain by doctors, Sarangi stated that the doctors should ask the State government for creation of an outpost in the hospital premises through a representation. He also assured action against the persons who had ransacked the hospital after identifying them from the CCTV footage.

Notably, demonstration was seen in front of the Puri hospital by local people on Thursday.
