Andhra bank loot case; eight persons of the gang arrested

Bhubaneswar, Sept 8: Eight persons with two main accused have been arrested by a jointly formed team of Pipili police and a Special squad on Wednesday in a loot case where seven miscreants had looted cash and ornaments from the locker of Andhra Bank at Kaushalyanganga seven days ago.

After seven days of search operation, gold ornaments of Rs 70,000, Rs7.80 lakh cash, nine mobile phones, four bikes, and eleven country made bombs, one hard disk and two axes have been seized by the police from them.

As per the information, two prime accused named Sheikh Azam and Riaz Khan of Danagohiri village were arrested by the police from Ramchandi area in Konark and after interrogating them, police nabbed other six miscreants.

Reportedly, Azam and Khan had gone to the bank on August 15, after which they made a blueprint and purchased 11 country-made bombs from Jatni. The six members of the gang lived in the house of Jaga in Nimapada and Susant in Kakatpur a day before the loot. On August 31, the day of the loot, they reached the bank on four bikes and entered the bank by attacking the security guard. With the help of sharp weapons, they threatened the bank officials and looted the cash and ornaments. After the loot, they immediately fled from the spot.

As per sources, the police have decided to take the arrested members on remand for further interrogation.
