Ravindra Jadeja’s Asia Cup campaign is over due to a knee injury. Axar Patel, who was initially designated as a reserve player, would be added to India’s main team as a replacement.
BCCI said, ‘ The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Axar Patel as the replacement for Ravindra Jadeja in the ongoing Asia Cup. Ravindra Jadeja has sustained a right knee injury and is ruled out of the tournament. He is currently under the supervision of the BCCI medical team. His replacement, Axar Patel was earlier named as one of the standbys in the squad and will join the team in Dubai soon’.
Jadeja has been instrumental in both of India’s Asia Cup matches thus far. He bowled two economical overs against Pakistan before being elevated to No. 4 in India’s chase of 148 since he was the only left-handed batsman in India’s top seven. With a score of 35 from 29 balls, he led India to victory.
Jadeja did not bat during the match against Hong Kong, although he was India’s most economical bowler. Despite making strong use of the powerplay while chasing 193, it was his 4 overs of 1 for 15 in the middle that suffocated the Hong Kong hitting team. He dismissed the leading scorer against Hong Kong, Babar Hayat, and only conceded 15 runs in four overs.
