Bhubaneswar, Mar 1: Nursing students at SOA University on Monday lit candles before a portrait of Florence Nightingale and took the customary oath to serve humankind with sincerity, diligence and compassion even as the guests congratulated them for choosing the noblest profession.
The ceremony also marked the beginning of “Rhythm-2016”, the two-day annual festival of the Sum Nursing College, the faculty of nursing of the SOA University.
Eminent social worker and activist, Ms. Namrata Chadha, who was the chief guest on the occasion, praised the students for “taking up the best profession which had no boundaries.”
“I saw robots doing the job in the USA, but it is a profession where the human touch and emotion was of immense value. God has chosen you for this work. I wish you the best,” she said.
Ms. Premlatha Sharma, Nursing Superintendent of the Amri Hospital, who attended the function as the guest of honour, urged the students to get trained in treating people with compassionate concern. The guests also released the college magazine on the occasion.
Prof. Pravati Tripathy, Dean of SNC and the Associate Dean, Prof. Sasmita Das also spoke.
