Assembly adjourned twice after ruckus over VAT exemption

Bhubaneswar, March 31: Odisha Assembly was adjourned twice on Thursday after Congress members created a ruckus in the House demanding the Speaker’s ruling over exemption the Value Added Tax (VAT) on essential commodities.

During the the zero hour, Congress chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati demanded the Speaker’s ruling on the issue in the House. After Speaker Niranjan Pujari rejected the demand, party MLAs made a din. Unable to run the House, the Speaker adjourned the House till 12.40 pm.

When the House reassembled after the adjournment, the Congress members darted into the well of the House and again demanded the Speaker’s ruling. Subsequently Pujari again adjourned the House till 3 pm.
