Visakhapatnam: May 07: Atleast 10 people including an eight-year-old girl were killed and over thousand people became ill after toxic gas had leaked from LG Polymers facility located near Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
Nearing 1000 people were reportedly admitted to hospital. Officials said, thousands of people were evacuted from nearby villages. Emergency services have evacuated villages and cordoned off a three-km radius area.
The plant is located at Gopalapatnam on the outskirts of Visakhapatnam and was operated by LG Polymers, a styrene plant owned and managed by South Korean Chemical Company LG Chem Limited.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy announced a committee to prove the mishap. Also, Chief Minister announced Rs.10 lakh each to the serious patients who are undergoing treatment on ventilator support and Rs.25,000 to the people who have taken treatment as out-patients after developing health complications due to the inhalation of toxic gas. Also, Mr.Reddy announced Rs.1 Crore compensation for the kin of deceased.
