Bhubaneswar: May 05: All Odisha Auto Chalak Mahasangha observed a dawn-to-dusk state-wide stir today protesting against the app-based services. The taxi drivers’ association also supported the strike. Auto-richshaws were off the roads from 6am today. Mahasangha alleged that, entry of on-line service providers will certainly affect their prospects. Protestors demanded provision of social security to auto-rickshaw drivers, a special auto transport policy, a uniform rate chart for all service providers.
More than lakh auto-rickshaws stayed off the roads and supported the 12 hour bandh on Thursday. Association members staged a rally from Master Canteen Square to PMG Square demanding the closure of online companies, which are providing App-based auto rickshaw services at cheaper price.
Normal life was affected in most parts of the state due to this bandh observed by All Odisha Auto Chalak Mahasangha . It was peaceful leaving behind few untoward incidences. Vandalism was reported in the Master Canteen area of Bhubaneswar and four persons have been arrested in this connection.
