Ballistic Missile Agni V successfully test fired off from Odisha coast

Bhubaneswar: June 03: India today successfully test-fired nuclear capable ballistic missile Agni-V from Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Abdul Kalam Island, formerly known as Wheeler Island in Bhadrak district of Odisha. The ballistic missile was tested from launch pad number 4 at around 9.50 am.

The surface-to-surface nuclear capable missile was launched with the help of a mobile launcher from launch pad-4 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Dr Abdul Kalam Island in the Bay of Bengal with a strike range of 5,000 km to 8,000 km that can reach almost all parts of China.

It is 17-metre long and 2-metre wide and having weight of around 50 tonnes.

This was for the sixth time the missile was tested successfully. The missile was last tested on January 18 this year. The first test of Agni-5 was conducted on April 19, 2012. Later, the test was conducted on September 15, 2013, the third on January 31, 2015 and fourth on December 26, 2016 from ITR.

Agni-5 will be inducted into service after few more trials.
