Cuttack, July 16: Barabati stadium in Cuttack has been accommodated in the list of one-day international venue for the upcoming India-England series beginning January next year, after being deprived of as Test venue to host longer format of the game.
Barabati stadium faced a ban after the bottle-pelting incident during the second T20 match between India and South Africa in October last year which ensued after the dismal show by the host. The match was disrupted twice and the visitors won the crowd disrupted match with 17 balls to spare.
BCCI (The Board of Control for Cricket in India) today announced the itinerary of the Test and ODI tour of England which will begin this November.
England on their tour to India will play a five-match Test series followed by three One-Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals.
England will start their tour with the opening Test in Rajkot which begins from November 9 and then move to Vizag (Nov 17-21) and Mohali (Nov 26-30) said Ajay Shirke, BCCI Secretary. The last two Test matches will be held in Mumbai (Dec 8-12) and Chennai (Dec 16-20).
After a Christmas break, England will resume the tour from January 15, when they will be playing the first of the ODIs in Pune. On January 19, they will play in Cuttack and the third match is scheduled to be played at the historic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on January 22. The T20s will be held in Kanpur (Jan 26), Nagpur (Jan 29) and Bengaluru (Feb 1).
After considering the awkward situation and crude behavior of the crowd last year at Barabati, the Odisha Cricket Association has decided not to allow bottled water to the stadium to avoid any further embarrassment.
