BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year 2021: India’s current premier women’s sprinter Dutee Chand has been nominated (among five other) for the prestigious BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year award 2021, on Monday. The winner of which will be announced on March 8 after public voting.
Today, On the occasion, CM of Odisha Naveen Patnaik has congratulated the Odisha born, athletic on his official twitter handle. “Congratulations Odisha’s ace sprinter Dutee Chand on being nominated for BBC Indian Sportswomen of the year. Wish her the very best and wish her to keep inspiring,” CM Patnaik tweeted.

The shooter Manu Bhaker, hockey player Rani Rampal, wrestler Vinesh Phogat, chess player Koneru Humpy are among the five other players nominated for the award (along Dutee Chand).
Started by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) last year, the award celebrates female athletes from across the country and recognizes their successes. This year’s nomination list was selected by a panel of eminent sports journalists, experts and writers from across the country.The shortlist will be opened up for public voting until February 24 on six BBC vernacular website and the winner will be announced on March 8 at a virtual ceremony in Delhi and on the BBC Sport website.
She owns title of being the first Indian woman in history to qualify for the event at Rio 2016 and also holds the national record in women’s 100m winning silver medal in Double Asian Games.
