Bhadrak, Apr 12: In connection to the objectionable comments posted on social media that led to the communal violence here, the cyber cell of the state Crime Branch (CB) has detained five persons. All the five accused belong to Bhadrak and are now being interrogated. This was said by CB Special DG BK Sharma here. Seven-member team of the CB had visited here on Apr 10 to probe the spread of rumours on social media. On the other hand, on Apr 6, Bajrang Sena and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) staged a demonstration ahead of the Town PS protesting against the offensive remarks made on Lord Ram. Hundreds of activists had staged road blockade by burning tyres. Communal tension gripped the town after the peace committee meeting among heads of religious groups could not come to a solution. A group of angry mob staged road blockade, ransacked police vehicles and torched several shops following which, the district admin imposed curfew here.
On the other hand, Odisha CM today assured of providing full compensation the victims and also promised strict punishment to the accused along with package of assistance for the people who have lost their livelihood. New vending zones will be constructed for rehabilitation of street vendors. He informed this after conducting a review meet here along with local elected representatives and administrative officials at the Collectorate where he asked the officials to assess the damage caused here and submit a report within three days. Patnaik did an on-spot review yesterday here by discussing with the locals at the sensitive Apartibindha, Chandan Bazar and Old town areas here. Soon after landing at the Nehru stadium helipad, he drove to town areas and walked a distance to meet the people and affected shopkeepers. Local MLAs, government officials also accompanied him.
