Bicentennial celebrations of ‘Paika Rebellion’; Odisha CM announces start of special train named after freedom fighter, Bakshi Jagabandhu

Khurda, Mar 30: As part of the bicentennial celebrations of ‘Paika Rebellion’ an armed revolt against the British East India Company in Odisha, the State government Odisha CM announced the start of a special train that is to be named after the renowned freedom fighter, Bakshi Jagabandhu at the concluding ceremony of ‘Paika Rebellion’ on Wednesday at the Khurda Garh. He also stated that the government is soon going to come up with a new drinking water scheme ‘Basudha’ for rural areas and it would be named as Bakshi Jagabandhu Rural Drinking Water Project. It would also be there in the urban areas. An allocation of Rs 1000 crore has decided for the project. Cultural Minister Ashok Chandra Panda, Law Minister Arun Sahu, School and Mass Education Minister Debi Mishra, and MP Prasanna Patsani were present during the concluding ceremony.

Notably, Paika Rebellion also famously known as ‘Paika Bidroha’ was a mutiny by local land owning militia in Khurda led by Bakshi Jagabandhu against the British regime in 1817.
