BJD Dominates Panchayat Polls; Leads In 703 ZP seats

February 28

Counting for 315 zones is over now and as reported, BJD won in 282 Zilla Parishad Zones, followed by BJP in 15 and Congress in 14 zones. Rest 4 seats have gone to other parties/independents.

In second phase, counting for 305 zilla parishad zones is on and BJD is ahead in at least 273 zilla parishad zones. BJP & Congress are leading in 15 seats each and others in 3 seats.

In the last 2 phases, if we shall look at the number, Biju Janata Dal is well ahead in almost all the 30 districts of the state. Now, BJD is likely to form parishads in all the 30 districts.

The third and final day of counting in 229 Zilla Parishad zones, the BJD is almost leading in 703 zp seats while the BJP and Congress in 40 & 37 seats respectively. Independents are leading in 7 seats.

BJP performed very well in the previous 2017 panchayat elections in the districts of Mayurbbhanj, Kalahandi and Malkangiri. But this time, it failed to even get a single seat so far. BJP had won 49 of 56 ZP seats in Mayurbjanj in 2017 panchayat elections, but it failed to live up to its expectation. Similarly, in Kalahandi, BJP had got 33 ZP seats in 2017 panchayat elections, but this time so far it won only 4 seats.

If we shall look at the last 2 panchayat elections, BJD had won in 651 ZPs in 2012 and 476 in 2017. This time it will secure more than 700 seats as per the trend.
