BJD MPs meet Prime Minister Modi

Bhubaneswar, Dec 17: A delegation of BJD MPs met Prime Minister Narendra Modi today at New Delhi to discuss the various issues of Odisha following proposed Polavarm project.

In the meeting MPs were highlighted three important matters to the PM which were Polavaram issue, financial assistance for drought like situation in the state and Bharat Ratna for Biju Patnaik.

After the meeting, MP Kalikesh Sindeo said the meeting went well with the PM and specifically three issues were discussed which are Polavaram issue, drought situation and Bharat Ratna for Bijju Patnaik.

Kalikesh also said, “The state government has demanded an assistance of Rs 2200 cr for the drought affected areas, input subsidy and immediate release of drought relief. The party have also asked for a sum of Rs 300cr more to exceed the limit of Agricultural refinance. We especially mentioned about the drought hit areas like Nuapada, Bolangir, parts of Barhgarh and Kalandi and sought for a long term solution for the western zone KBK areas.”

Talking about the Polavaram issue, BJD MP Balbhadra Majhi informed, “On behalf of our party, we have demanded the Prime Minister to halt the construction work of the Polavaram project until a decision in this regard taken in the court.”

The PM has also assured us to hold a reconciliation meeting with the states along with CWC involved in the project, Majhi added.

The members of the delegation also urged the Prime Minister to confer Bharat Ratna on legendary leader Biju Patnaik.
