Berhampur, Mar 18: Late last night a villager was murdered and another injured by some mircreants in an attack at Rohigaon under Kukudakhandi block in Ganjam , here. The name of the deceased is Ashok Jena, the brother of BJD Kukudakhandi unit president Sanyas Jena. Tension gripped at the area and police forces have reached Rohigaon to maintain law and order.
It so happened that Ashok along with Srinibas Swain and some other villagers were going to call an artist for the Danda Nacha rehearsal last night at around 10 pm. From nowhere some armed miscreants hiding in roadside bushes waylaid them near Nuasahi. Even though some of Ashok’s associates managed to escape but the miscreants caught hold of Ashok and hit his head with a sword. Srinibas fought to stop the attackers from hitting Ashok following which he too faced a blow. Both of them were immediatley taken to the MKCG hospital in a critical state. However, as the condition of Ashok worsened, the family members shifted him to a private hospital in Visakhapatnam where doctors declared him dead. Thereafter, Ashok’s body was brought back to the MKCG hospital for post-mortem.
It’s stated that the attack on Ashok is a post-poll violence as the deceased was the brother of the ruling party’s local leader Sanyas Jena and also a strong BJD supporter. On the other, the attackers have been identified by the eye-witnessed who said that the miscreants belonged to another political party. Prior to the panchayat elections, another brother of Sanyas had been attacked by supporters of another party. As per sorces, the local cops here have initiated a plan to nab the attackers.
