BJP protests minor rape, demand women security

Bhubaneswar, Jan 24: State BJP on Saturday held demonstrations across the State to protest the rape of a minor in Jatani on Wednesday night and criticising the State Government on what it alleged lack of security to women in the State.

State President Basant Panda alleged during the demonstrations in the State capital that law and order situation in the State during BJD rule has deteriorated hugely and women did not feel safe to move out of their houses.

There is no fear of law as has been proved in the Jatani incident, he said as the accused has committed the crime after being release from jail.

He urged the people to raise their voice against crime against women and exert pressure on the government to streamline the law and order situation.

Reports from different parts of the State that the party held protest demonstrations before government offices and police stations during which they set on fire effigies of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

Hundreds of party workers took out rallies in different places and shouted slogans against the State government and Police.

Reports of protest poured in from Boudh, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Ghumusar, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Kendrapara, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Jaypore, Bolangir.

In Sambalpur, BJP workers burnt an effigy at Golbazar Chhak area of the city.

“This government has failed in giving security to women. Repeatedly women are physical assaulted by miscreants in the state. Neither administration nor police department of this state show any intrest to control over these problems,” said an woman activist Anusuya Barik.

However, no untoward incident was reported from anywhere during the protests.
