BJP stages demo demanding Dasburma’s resignation

Cuttack, April 12: The Cuttack city unit of BJP on Monday evening staged a demonstration on the busy streets of Badambadi here demanding the resignation of Food and Consumer Welfare minister from his post for his alleged involvement in multi-crore chit fund scam in the state.

The agitating members of the saffron party also burnt the effigies of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Food minister and Biju Chatra Janata Dal (BCJD) state president and MLA Byomkesh Ray.

The protesters threatened to intensify their stir if the minister does not put in his resignation papers immediately.

Biswanath Jyotki, BJP Cuttack district youth wing president said, “We demand the resignation of Sanjay Dasburma for his involvement in the chit fund scam. Besides, we also demand the arrest of BCJD president Byomkesh Ray and Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) deputy mayor Ajay Barik for their links with arrested criminal brothers Sushil and Sushant Dhalasamant.

Meanwhile, the members of the women’s wing of the party lighted earthen lamps at Dolamundai Jagannath temple expressing their condolence for the 102 victims who lost their lives in Puttingal temple explosion in Kerala.

The locals reportedly ransacked the liquor factories after failing to extract an assurance from the police. “The liquor seller attacked some youth of the slum with sharp weapons and beer bottles. He is always thrashing the locals. So we today ransacked the liquor shops,” said an agitating woman. “I have complained to the Inspector in Charge (IIC) of Markat Nagar police station many times about the illegal liquor sale in the locality. But instead of taking any action, police have encouraged the illegal liquor sale in the area. I will bring this matter to DCP’s notice if the IIC does not take any action to make the area liquor free,” said Giribala Behera, Corporator of the ward.
