Targeting government over review meeting to deal with the drought like situation in parts of the State, BJP today criticised for showing its preparedness after a delegation met Governor SC Jamir about the matter.
The government was in deep slumber without any information drought situation in 17 districts due to insufficient rainfall during this monsoon. It woke up after a team of BJP members met Governor SC Jamir and raised the issue by submitting a memorandum on Sept 11. In a review meeting, the government admitted to the fact about drought situation in western part of the State and ordered to produce a report within 7 days, said the state unit of BJP in a release here.
The farmers were completely ignored and the drought situation was brought to light by BJP after a team led by party president KV Singhdeo visited 5 districts on Sept 7,8 and took the stock of situation.
Raising suspicion over the government’s move to tackle the situation, the BJP said, “The government, which was not ready earlier to deal with the drought situation in the State, now ordered to submit the drought report within 7 days reviewing the meeting yesterday”.
The party suggested Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik should visit the drought areas and meet farmers not confining the preparedness in review meeting.
Notably, Patnaik is scheduled to begin state wide Padyatra from Oct 2 to 11. Instead of visiting the regions by air, he should directly meet the farmers, said BJP spokesperson Sajjan Sharma, state executive members Dilip Mallick and Kalandi Samal.
Meanwhile, BJP Kisan Morcha national president Bijay Pal Singh Tomar has arrived in Bhubaneswar for two-day trip to Odisha to review the drought situation in the State. He visited Khurda, Nayagarh and Puri districts today.
