Bhubaneswar, Nov 7: BJP’s fact finding team, led by party’s former MP Ananta Nayak, has been sent to visit Keonjhar district today after three children died due to suspected Japanese Encephalitis (JE) in the district in last ten days.

According to sources, the team will visit the village of the diseased children to review the situation following which it will submit a report to the party chief here.

As per the report published by the media, the death toll due to JE has mounted to 94 in the state but on the other hand, the government has still put the figure as 30. However, the death toll may be higher due to the fact that out of the 361 blood samples of children that have been tested so far, 112 children have been tested positive with the JE virus.

As per the information from government officials, only 30 deaths were confirmed cases of JE. The remaining died due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES). AES normally starts with fever and has symptoms such as confusion and disorientation and may or may not be caused by a virus.

An initiative to vaccinate more than 26 lakh children in Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Jajpur districts against JE from December 1 is being taken by the officials to contain the spread of the disease.
