December 12
The bodies of four people from Odisha’s Nabarangpur district who had been missing in Chhattisgarh since December 10 were discovered at a well along the Kanker-Kondagaon highway on Monday, according to police.
All four people’s bodies were discovered in the car in which they were travelling. Local police recovered the ill-fated car and the dead bodies from the open well, according to Umerkote Inspector in-charge Deepak Kumar Jena.
Sapan Sarkar, his wife Rita, his brother-in-law Biswajit, and his neighbour Hajari Dhali were among those killed. They were all residents of Umerkote in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district.
The relatives filed a complaint that the four people left Kanker around 10.30 p.m. on December 10 night but did not arrive at their destination. During the investigation, the police team discovered vehicle tracks near the well and recovered the dead bodies and car from the well.
Though it was suspected that the deceased died in an accident, the exact cause of death has yet to be determined, according to the police.
According to reports, the four people travelled to Kanker in a car last Saturday to attend a wedding ceremony. They had decided to stay at Biswajit’s hometown of Kondagaon in Chhattisgarh on their way home.
They did not arrive at their destination until the next morning, and all of their mobile phones were turned off.
Following this, the family members filed separate complaints with the police stations of Umerkote in Odisha and Kanker in Chhattisgarh.
