The authorities of Biju Patnaik International Airport here have sought the help of the odisha forest Department to tackle the menace of birds in the airport.

With rising incidents of bird hit Airport authorities have now written to the Odisha Forest Department to catch the birds and leave them elsewhere.

According to a recent study, about 49 species of birds are living inside the airport compound and more than 100 species of bird living around the airport premises.

The authorities said that they have asked the Forest Department to catch the birds and leave them at far off places to reduce the menace.

It may be mentioned here that as many as 57 incidents of bird hit in the past four years ,while there were 10 such incidents last year.

But this year there have already 11 incidents so far.

A bird hit is not only fatal for the bird, but on most occasions leads to expensive repairs for the aircraft.

Frequents incidences of bird hit will damage the reputation of the Airport and could lead to cancellation of license of the Airport, Airport Diretor Sharad Kumar Said.
