Nayagarh, Sep 16: Yesterday a woman was left barren after severely injured on being allegedly subjected to a very low class and brutal torture at the Saranakula police station in Nayagarh district.
The victim is Sita Jena aged 55 and is the wife of Bhikari Jena belonging to Sikharpur Godisahi under the Sarankhula police station. The woman’s husband has complained to the Nayagarh SP who has directed the A.S.P to investigate further.
The district superintendent of police have ordered for an enquiry into the incident. It’s stated that Prabhati Jena was married to Upendra, son of Bhikari Jena. Due to some family dispute, Prabhati wanted divorce Upendra, and for that, she had even filled a complaint against him at the nearest police station.
Yesterday, the sub-inspector of Saranakula police station, Bidita Jena had asked Upendra’s father Bhikari and mother Sita to appear at the police station for interrogation. When the inspector Jena asked the couple to convince their son to give divorce to Prabhati, outraged Sita interfered by saying that they would discuss the matter in the court. As a result, at the police station, in a fit of rage, Bidita started beating Sita following which the latter became unconscious. Bhikari immediately admitted his wife to the Nayagarh district headquarters hospital where her condition was stated to be critical.
