Cuttack, Nov 8: Getting a major breakthrough, cannabis and marijuana worth more than Rs 22 lakh were seized by the Excise department’s flying squad on Monday during a raid conducted at a godown at Brahmapur area in Puri.
The raid was conducted by a team of 20 Excise department officials, led by DSP Harischandra Sethi.
The team also arrested two persons, named Sudarshan Nanda and Smruti Ranjan Pani in this connection. Sudarshan’s father Sura Nanda is suspected to be the kingpin of the contraband trade. However, Sura has absconded and is yet to be nabbed.
As per the information, 100 bags containing four tonnes of cannabis (bhang) and two bags consisting 40 kgs of marijuana (ganja) were seized by the flying squad.
Later, the arrested two were interrogated at the Excise department’s office at CDA, Cuttack and were later forwarded to the court in Puri.
