Bhubaneswar: May 18: Four separate incidents of rape of minors have been reported in a single day in Odisha. It is alleged that, a man of sixty year old raped a minor girl in Press Chhak area of Cuttack  and Madhupatna Police have arrested the accused identified as Jagannath Mohapatra. As alleged, Jagannath Jagannath took the victim to a secluded place and raped her twice. The victim narrated the matter to her mother, who lodged a complaint with the Police. The victim has been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

In another case, a 56 year old man of Dagara Village under Baliapal Police limits in Balasore district allegedly attempted to rape a mentally challenged minor girl. The accused Manmath Jena attempted to rape the minor girl when she was alone at home and hearing the victim’s screams, some people rushed to the spot and rescued her. But, Manmath fled away from the place.

Another incident occurred in Jagannath Prasad area of Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district where a 15-year-old girl having been allegedly raped by her cousin. Police have detained the accused.

Again, a minor girl from Salipur area was raped by her neighbour. Officials of Childline visited the victim’s house to conduct an inquiry and have registered a complaint with Salipur Police.

It is to be noted, Odisha police have announced to launch mega awareness campaign to curb crime against minor girls.
