CBI to probe Ramesh Jena’s chit fund links

Bhubaneswar, March 13: Berhampur police has decided to move the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), to probe the chit fund link of former Sanakhemundi MLA Ramesh Jena.

Berhampur Police have claimed that they have detected links of the former Congress MLA with Green India Chit Fund Company which is being probed by the central investigating agency.

The State unit of Congress Saturday came down heavily on Odisha Police DG KB Singh.

Leader of Opposition Narsingha Mishra targeted Singh and questioned if Jena is not yet proven guilty, then how did the DGP call him a criminal.

“The Odisha Police had lodged 40 cases against Jena but he has been acquitted in 35 cases. The other cases are being investigated.

However, the DGP refuted the charges leveled by the leader of Opposition  and denied making any such comment against the arrested former MLA Ramesh Jena.

Meanwhile, Police have filed two new cases, including a murder case,  against arrested former Congress MLA Ramesh Jena, sources said.

According to sources, a murder case and an attempt to murder case have been filed against the ex-legislator. The cases have been filed in BNpur and Town police stations respectively said sources.

Southern Range IG Amitabh Thakur said that Jena could be taken into remand further considering the number of cases which have been filed against him.
