CCTV cameras in passenger busses soon to boost Woman safety

Bhubaneswar: June 18: The transport department has decided to equip all govt and private busses with CCTV cameras. By July 31, the facility will be provided in 400 buses running under state transport department and within next months, it will be implemented in private buses also, informed Transport minister Ramesh Majhi. He further added all the vehicle would be equipped with Vehicle Tracking and Passenger Information System. In order to make the bus journey safer, particularly for women, government has taken this decision.

Odisha State Regional Transport Corporation (OSRTC) decided to begin Volvo luxury bus services soon on the Cuttack-Berhampur, Keonjhar-Bhubaneswar, Jeypore-Rajmahendri and Bisakhapatnam-Jagdalpur routes,

With this the State Government also has decided to build 5 new bus stands, official sources informed.

Transport department has also proposed to add two sub-rules in the Odisha Motor Vehicle Rules, 1993, to enhance security of passengers, specifically for women commuters.

According to the draft rules the name and address of the driver, conductor and helper should be intimated to the transport authority and regional transport authority with a police verification report regarding their character.
