New Delhi, Nov 17: Centre on Monday rushed 11 teams comprising over 400 personnel of NDRF responders to conduct relief and rescue operations in rain-hit Tamil Nadu. These teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) will also be carrying 38 inflatable rubber boats along with other necessary equipments to undertake quick operations in the state.
These teams will assist local administration of various districts to distribute relief material, food items and medicines to the affected people.
The North-East monsoon has continued to wreak havoc in Tamil Nadu with rains pounding the northern coastal districts and the death toll has climbed to 71 till now.
Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force has airlifted 22 people, including 12 infants, from rainwater-inundated parts of the city here.
The evacuation was done from Ashok Nagar and another adjoining area of the city and airdropped 100 litres of water and 150 food packets.
Normal life has been hit in Tamil Nadu as incessant rains led to inundation of large areas and authorities have shut down educational institutions.
At least 71 people have died due to the rains in Tamil Nadu.
