Chennai experts to visit Puri for Jagmohan inspection

Bhubaneswar, Feb 9: A team of experts from IIT Chennai will soon visit Shree Mandir in Puri to inspect the condition of the Jagamohan. The team will conduct a laser scanning of the structure after the de-plastering work and necessary measures will be taken to strengthen the structure, ASI officials have said. According to ASI Director General Rakesh Tiwari, who was here recently to review the restoration work going on in the temple, the condition of the structure is not in good shape though the de-plastering work is being carried out. He said the seven pockets that have already been deplasterd reveals big faults on the ceiling.

However, the extent of damage to the ceiling will be known only when the entire structure is de-plastered, he said. ASI Director (Conservation) Janvi Sharma met Chief Administrator of Jagannath Temple Suresh Kumar Mohapatra, other members of the Archaeological agency , temple administration and discussed about the condition of the Jagmohan.

ASI DG also inspected the conservation work of the world famous Sun temple here and reviewed the progress in chemical treatment work.
