Chit Fund Investigative Commission submits 2nd Interim report to Odisha Government

Bhubaneswar, Feb 3 : Today, in connection with the multi-crore chit fund scam case in Odisha, Justice MM Das, Commission of Inquiry, who is probing the case, submitted the second interim report to the State government. The second interim report was submitted by the secretary of the commission, Debraj Rout to the Home department Special Secretary, Lalit Das at State Secretariat here. Rout stated to the media that the report has been prepared based on the 61,212 of the more than eight lakh affidavits filed with it.

On May 25, the Commission had submitted its first report to the State. It was the Commission’s suggestion to process the refund money back to the small depositors who had been defrauded by the Chit Fund companies operating in the state.

The money for around 1,124 investors have been returned to them till now. But as the investors have filed complaints against 174 companies collecting money approximately, hence, 110 firms have been sent notice by the Commission to reply regarding the same. It’s also stated that due to lack of a proper address for communication, the investigative agency has asked all 65 companies to respond through newspaper advertisement regarding their money collecting activities. Also, the Economic Offences Wing of State Crime Branch could not provide information about 26 companies that were active in Odisha a couple of years ago
