Bhubaneswar, Feb 12: The Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar celeberated its foundation day on Friday.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the function while commending role of the institute in shaping India’s scientific temper. “Biju Babu instituted the coveted UNESCO-Kalinga Award to promote science in the State, I am glad that we are paying tribute to the icon,” Naveen said.
He announced the Government’s initiative to establish Bay of Bengal Observatory at Ganjam to combat natural calamities, expressing his delight that it would be the first of its kind in India.
“We expect contribution from the scientific elite of the institute towards Research and Development (R&D) in sanitation, traffic management and security. for the newly declared smart city Bhubaneswar. We are hopeful on an agreement with IIT for developing rural road technology to help usher development in rural areas of the State,” he added.
