Bhubaneswar: A strong cold wave in Odisha is being experienced as the mercury has hit its lowest. As many as 15 cities have recorded temperatures below 10 degree Celsius. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rainfall in some parts of Odisha starting today till December 19. The rainfall will possibly increase the temperature and bring some relief from the intense cold.

According to the recent reports from the IMD, the coldest place in the state is Daringbadi where the temperature dropped to 4.8 degree Celsius on Monday. Snowfall was reported in several regions including Kaida in Sundargarh, Similipal sanctuary in Mayurbhanj, and Raikia in Kandhamal. Dense fog affected visibility in Koraput and Kandhamal due to cold wave in Odisha. As a result, the meteorological department has issued a yellow alert in these regions.

However, the situation is expected to improve. From today the temperature will rise by 3 degree Celsius to 5 degree Celsius. The IMD has also predicted light to moderate rain in some places over the next three days. The rainfall is expected to increase the temperature and reduce the cold.

While a low pressure system is active in the South Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal, it will not affect Odisha directly. However some places in Odisha will witness rain till December 19 starting today.
