Khurda: The construction workers trapped inside the Adenigarh-Charichhak tunnel in the Khorda-Balangir railway line were rescued today. The tunnel caved in on Monday.

The 4.1km long Adenigarh-Charichhak tunnel-under the East Coast Railway collapsed near the Nuagaon reportedly between 4.30 PM and 5 PM on Monday due to which about a 30-meter wide hole was formed.

The Railway officials said that only the tunnel caved in but no one is injured. The T-4 is the longest tunnel, it is 4 km and 185 metre wide. For the security purposes a 700-metre long escape tunnel is there.

“A minor soil caving in occurred this afternoon at Tunnel No. 4 on the Khurda-Bolangir Railway line, it is due to loose soil formation and continuous rainfall in the area. There has been no impact on manpower or machinery, and the incident will not affect the overall progress of the project. All necessary safety measures are in place, and work continues as planned,” clarified the East coast Railway in a press release.

It is to be noted here that the breakthrough ceremony of the tunnel was held on June 16, 2025.
