Court rejects Bail Plea, Sum Hospital owner under two day remand

Bhubaneswar, Oct 21: After the bail plea of Manoj Nayak, the owner of Sum hospital and trustee of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandan Charitable Trust was rejected by the Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate Court on Thursday, Nayak has been sent to Jharpada Jail.

Besides that, as per the court’s permission Nayak has also been taken into a two day remand by the Commissionerate Police from Friday. However a three day remand period had been asked by the police.

According to the court’s order, on October 23, after his remand period ends, Nayak will be produced before court.

As per the information, the bail plea was rejected as the case registered against him, which is Sec 304 IPC can only be heard by the Sessions Court and thus on this basis Nayak’s plea was rejected.

It may be noted that, Manoj Nayak on Thursday had surrendered himself at the Khandagiri Police station at 3.30 am.

The fire service department filed a complaint against him under sec 304, 308, 285 and 34 of IPC.

After the major fire mishap, happened in Sum Hospital on Monday which claimed lives of 24 persons,  the public has raised finger towards the management of Sum Hospital alleging about no fire safety measures at hospital premises.
