CPI (M) urges State Government for a joint meeting of States on Polavaram Project

Bhubaneswar, Sept 16: Stating to hold a joint meeting among the affected states and urging a stop on the construction of the Polavaram Project in Andhra Pradesh, the CPI (M) submitted a memorandum to the State Governor S C Jamir on Friday.

In the memorandum, it was mentioned that Government of India should hold a joint discussion meeting with Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telengana and Andhra Pradesh.

After a memorandum, addressed to the President, was submitted by BJD on Thursday, a delegation of the CPI (M), headed by Ali Kishore Patnaik, state secretary of CPI (M) and Janardan Pati, senior member has the governor here. Demonstration by BJD opposing the Polavaram project work was also observed.

CPI (M) also suggested to reduce the Polavaram dam proposed height from 182 ft to 150 ft, as it would create huge loss for the State by creating water-logging in Malkangiri and Koraput district.

Many tribal families who have got little benefits under the Forest Rights Act, will be affected due to lack of water for Polavaram project.
