First Test Between India Vs New Zealand Ends in Draw
The first test of two-match Test series played between India and New Zealand at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur ended in draw. The Indian team could not put the last nail in the coffin of the Kiwi team as India remained one wicket away from victory in a thrilling match. India’s second match in the new cycle of the ICC World Test Championship has been a draw.
In reply to 284 runs, New Zealand batted 98 overs in their second innings and lost 9 wickets.
After going wicketless in the opening session of day five, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Umesh Yadav, and Axar Patel picked eight wickets in the next two sessions. Indian bowlers could not take the last wicket even in the last 52 balls.
Thus the result of the match was a draw. You will be surprised to know that this is the first time after the year 2017 that a Test match has been drawn in India.
At the same time, New Zealand’s team has drawn a match for the first time in the last seven matches.
Rachin Ravindra, who made his Test debut for New Zealand in this match, showed a great game and saved the team from defeat. Rachin could only make 18 runs in 91 balls with the help of 2 fours, but the good thing was that he did not lose his wicket.
This was the reason why the Indian team could not take the last wicket. Even India got a game of about 9 overs, in which they had to take the last wicket, but Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin and Axar Patel failed.
Brief Scores: India 345 (Shreyas Iyer 105, Tim Southee 5/69) and 234/7d in 81 overs (Shreyas Iyer 65, Kyle Jamieson 3/40) drew with New Zealand 296 in 142.3 overs (Tom Latham 95, Axar Patel 5/62) and 165/9 in 98 overs (Tom Latham 52, William Somerville 36, Ravindra Jadeja 4/40, Ravichandran Ashwin 3/35).
