Bhubaneswar, Mar 28: Today the White Paper was presented by the Home departmnet in the Odisha Assembly. It witnessed a marginal rise in crimes as 1,03,702 cases have been registered in 2016 in comparison to last year where 1,03,200 cases were registered. However, there was a fall in the number of rape cases in 2016. It went down to 2144 in 2016 as compared to last year when it were 2184. Likewise, 1328 murder cases have been registered in 2016, 566 that of dacoity and 2012 loot cases occurred. As per reports, 10,532 road accidents have occurred. Firing between criminal and police have taken place around 33 times in which 23 civilians and three security personnel have died.
The Home department’s White Paper report further stated that there is subsequent progress in Maoists situation. Naxal related cases have been recorded in 11 districts. In 7 districts of Odisha, the Maoists are under control and in 4 districts there have not been naxal incidents.
