Cuttack, Aug 12: To press for the fulfillment of a 12-point charter of demands, the congress called for a 12-hour dawn to dusk bandh in Cuttack today. The bandh has affected normal life in the city.
All government offices, business houses and shops remained closed and vehicular movement has been prohibited, a party leader said. Due to Rail Roko strike, rail services had also been affected for a while at Cuttack railway station. Road blockades were observed in various parts of the city during the bandh.
To avoid any unwanted situation, around 12 platoons of police force have been deployed in the city.
Among the issues, the bandh is being observed by the Party to protest the failure of the State government in addressing various civic issues in the city and corruption in the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC).
Cuttack Nagar Congress has alleged that the BJD government has only been showing step-motherly nature for the city. The Congress also pointed out at the civic issues faced by the citizens of the city like the poor city roads condition and sanitation facilities, difficulties due to the ongoing JICA work and corruption in the civic body.
