Cuttack, Jan 30: A three-member team of Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has begun investigation into the incident of sale of children in a slum in the millennium city.
The team led by District Child Protection Officer went to Nilakantheswar slum under Chauliaganj police station limits and spoke to the family members of the children who were allegedly sold in phases.
The officials of Childline also visited the slum and assisted in the investigation.
At least a dozen children, including girls, have allegedly been sold in neighbouring Andhra for employment in various works for prices ranging from Rs 10, 000 and Rs 15, 000, residents of the area alleged.
A women Sashi Behera has allegedly worked as middleman in the sale.
However, no case has so far been registered against anyone at the local police station nor any arrest has been made.
