Bhubaneswar: July 13: Spread of Dengue has created an alarming situation in the state of Odisha. Nearing 800 patients have already been identified in the state and 130 patients are undergoing treatment in various hospitals of state. It has now started spreading to district after district and dengue patients have already been found in Keonjhar, Cuttack, Jagatpur, Khurda, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Sundergarh and Ganjam.
To arrest the spread of Dengue, a joint meeting of Health & Family Welfare department and Housing & Urban Development department was held yesterday at State Secretariat here. After the meeting, Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak told to media persons, ‘To check this water borne disease, state administration will go for massive cleaning operation in the affected areas. Also, Health & Family welfare department of the state has opened up special wards for dengue treatment in district headquarter hospitals and started providing free treatments to patients’. Looking at the increasing number of patients, SCB Medical College authorities have increased the number of beds in the Dengue ward from 50 to 90.
Urban Development Minister Puspendra Singhdeo said, cleaning drive has been initiated in different urban pockets involving NGOs to minimise the spread of the disease and also, an intensive awareness campaign will be carried out as preventive measures against the spread of disease.
Odisha government also appointed a senior IAS officer as nodal officer to monitor the measures taken against the water borne diseases. Also, It is learnt that, Union Minister for state Health & Family Welfare Shri Faggan Singh Kulaste will visit Odisha from tomorrow to review dengue situation in Odisha.
