Cuttack, July 19: The district administration on Tuesday sealed one more industrial unit for not complying with the stipulated guidelines to maintain hygiene in the area thus binding the open boundaries of the industrial units in the Jagatpur area and their hands in the spread of the dengue.

The Jagannath Food Company was closed down in the presence of the district administration officials as it was found violating the cleanliness rules along with having poisonous preservatives in food processing.the authorities had even sent an official show-cause notice to eight other industrial units in that area which have not been able to maintain hygiene and mobilize sanitation teams as per the orders of the administrative department and sought a legal report from them as well. Further on, the team has decided to maintain 12 additional squads in the area and their work will be maintained by a special officer.

On Monday, the Cuttack district reported 35 new cases of dengue out of which 17 were from Jagatpur area alone. With this, the total number of dengue-affected persons in Cuttack District has reached to 228. Across the state, 106 persons have been infected with dengue on Monday, including 41 from Keonjhar district, thus raising the total to 1,476 from 1,370 on Sunday. It’s been alleged that the disease was first reported from Jagatpur Industrial Estate in 2013, but unfortunately the civic body authorities took no preventive measures to avoid its repetitions. They also alleged that closed industrial units which have now become into turned breeding sites for dengue mosquitoes, are not being cleaned periodically, thus aggravating the situation.
