Detained Youth is a labourer, not a Maoist; Police

Khurda: November 09: Locals of Deuli area of Khurda district detained a youth yesterday while he was buying rations from a shop and handed over to Police on suspicion of having links with Maoists. Locals suspected him as Maoists as he was not speaking coherently. Police after interrogation and initial probe confirmed that, he is not a Maoist.

The detained person’s name is Suresh Panharia, resident of Boden Block in Nuapada district and was working as a labourer at a brick-kiln in Andhra Pradesh, Central Range IG Soumendra Priyadarshi informed.

Police sources informed, Suresh and his two colleagues fled from Andhra Pradesh over some debt issues and had been hiding inside Gajamundia forest near Khurda since last few days.

A joint team of Odisha Police & Special Operation Group (SOG) launched a search operation and recovered cooking items from Gajamundia forest. Suresh’s two colleagues are absconding and Police is trying to capture them.
