Dhenkanal: Youth shot and stoned to death

Dhenkanal: In a shocking incident, a youth was shot and later stoned to death in Dhenkanal of Odisha yesterday night. The chilling incident took place at the Karigara Sahi under Dhenkanal Town Police Station limits.

The deceased has been identified as Maheswar Behera, also known as Titan, from the Karigara sahi of Dhenkanal.

According to reports, Titan was returning home at around 11 pm when some miscreants suddenly opened fire on him. As he was shot, he fell down on the spot after being hit by 2 rounds of bullets in his leg.

The incident took place a short distance from his house and his wife came running out after hearing the gunshots. When Titan tried to escape, the miscreants dragged him to another place and pelted him with stones before fleeing from the spot.

He was later rescued and admitted to Dhenkanal district headquarter Hospital. However, the doctors there pronounced him dead.

It is suspected that the crime has been committed due to a past enmity. The deceased’s wife has alleged that Titan was attacked by the assailants a month ago and her hand was broken.

Dhenkanal Town Police Station is investigating the case. By the time this report was written, no accused persons had been either detained or arrested in this matter.

I will bring this matter to DCP’s notice if the IIC does not take any action to make the area liquor free,” said Giribala Behera, Corporator of the ward.
