Nabarangapur: Over 150 students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in Nabarangapur district of Odisha fell sick as diarrhea reportedly broke out in the institution.

The students of the Khatiguda-based Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya complained of vomiting and diarrhea, following which the school authorities informed the concerned health officials.

Immediately, a team of doctors reached the Khatiguda JNV with medicines and testing kits and started the treatment of the affected students yesterday. They also collected samples like water and food from the institute and sent them for laboratory test.

“I have been suffering from diarrhea since Monday. I feel extremely week now as had to attend the nature’s call for 10-14 times a day. The medical team came and gave us medicines and ORS. Hopefully, we all get well soon,” said one of the girl students.

Speaking about the development, Principal in-charge Ratnakar Sahoo said, “I informed the doctor of Tentulikhunti Community Health Centre (CHC) after getting to know that several students are suffering from loose motion and vomiting. A medical team reached the school and provided treatment to the students. About 80 per cent of the situation is under control. Only 4-5 new cases were reported today. All of them are under medication. If we find anyone to be in critical condition, we refer them to the CHC.” “We are yet to identify the cause of the infections as all precautions have been taken in advance,” he added.

In his reaction to the media persons, Tentulikhunti CHC doctor Subhendu Bag said, “We reached the school after getting information and provided first-aids to the affected students. After medication, the health condition of most of them improved. However, those whose conditions were critical were referred to the Tentulikhunti Community Health Centre (CHC) for better treatment. As of now we are unable to ascertain the exact reason behind the outbreak of diarrhea.”
