Dhamra, Dec 23: Adani Foundation organised a two day 9thVolleyball Tournament on Dosinga Market ground on 20th and 21st December in which 10 panchayat teams of Dhamra Port participated from eight panchayats. Thus, sports are slowly becoming an integral part of holistic education. Dosinga Volley Team won the tournament by defeating the last year champion team Amarnagar Town Club.
In the semi-final Dosinga defeated Bansada team to reach the final, while Amarnagar team defeated Karanjmal team. The other participating teams were Bansada, Kaninali, Dhamra, Jagula, Kaithakhola and Panchutikri.
Smasher Kanhu of Amarnagar team won the Best Smasher. Adani-Dhamra Port organises the tournament every year to encourage local volley teams and promote rural sports talents. District Sports Officer Manoj Das witnessed the game. The matches were officiated by National qualified referees Basant Das, Pratap Nayak and Sujit Kumar Kar.
Among others, the group Security Head Sri VS Chandrawat of Adani Group and Dhamra Port CEO Sri Subrat Tripathy, HR Head Sri J. P. Jena, Unit CSR Head Prabhat Kumar Mishra, Deputy Manager Subhashish Mishra and all CSR team were present during the final match of the tournament.
In all nearly 2500 players/officials/villagers are involved in the championship. Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Adani Group Security Head, Sri VS Chandrawat in the presence of Sarpanch, Opinion leaders, Couches, team managers etc. Unit CSR Head Prabhat Kumar Mishra welcomed the Chief Guest while in presence of Col Mahitosh Deo presenting bouquet to them on their arrival.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest underlined the importance of sports in nation building specially in moulding the youth of the State in various constructive activities with special reference to Kashmir Valley youths. He also expressed his pleasure to see the participating teams from rural villages.
During the valedictory function, Chief Executive Officer Sri Subrat Tripathy said, that the youth of the periphery villages have enormous potential which needs to be explored and nurtured in the right direction and the efforts are underway to provide environment to channelise energy of youth towards nation building.He said special attention is being given to provide better facilities to the budding sportspersons and foster their talent so that they can compete at national and international level. He complemented the players for taking part in the tournament and wished them success in their carrier.
“The championship would provide an opportunity to sports lovers in general and volleyball lovers in particular to witness the latest techniques of volleyball game,” he said.
