Bhubaneswar, May 12: Chief Secretary AP Padhi after a review meeting at the Secretariat here said that the process of identification of investors duped in various chit-fund scams in the State will be done by June end. For the same, a three member team has been formed comprising an ASI, Revenue Inspector and Extension Officer at the block-level to undertake field verification for the same which is mandated under the OPID Act. The State’s Finance Secretary Tuhinakant Pandey, who was also present in the review meeting said that a specially-designated court has given directions to the State government to consider refund to 3.93 lakh depositors of Rose Valley and the Justice MM Das Commission of Inquiry has identified 12,000 small depositors hit by the chit-fund scam. He further said that the process for verification of depositors will be either videographed or captured on CCTV cameras. To prevent making false claims, the government has set up a toll free number on which someone can provide information on the refund process. The meeting was conducted through video conferencing with district collectors and SPs in presence of other secretaries. On the other hand, the joint convener of a chit-fund depositors’ association, Anuradha Subuddhi gave threats of intensifying agitation if investors are not identified Tehsil-wise.
