Bhubaneswar, Aug 2: Absconding accused, Sukanta Mohapatra, son of Bichitrananda Jena of LB-129 Stage-II, Laxmisagar, Bhubaneswar, and Director of M/s Ashirbad Multipurpose Co-operative Society limited has been arrested by EOW on Aug 1, 2016 from Rourkela.
The case pertains to unauthorized collection of public deposits by M/s Ashirbad Multipurpose Co-operative Society limited and its sister companies namely, M/s Ashirbad Multi-trade Private limited, M/s Ashirbad Multi-tech and Infracon limited and M/s Ashirbad Goat Rearing India limited to the tune of more than rupees of 7 crores. The Directors of the company after collecting huge amounts of public deposits closed down their corporate office at Paik Nagar, Bhubaneswar and branch offices at different places of the state and absconded without refunding the deposited amount of the investors.
In this connection, Olatpur PS Case No 26 dated 27th March, 2015 under section 420/406/120-B IPC, R/w Section 6 of Odisha Protection of Interests of Depositors (in Financial Establishments) Act, 2011 was registered which was subsequently taken over by EOW, CID-CB, Bhubaneswar by reregistering EOW PS Case No 23 dated 23rd November, 2015 under section 420/406/120-B IPC, R/w Section 6 of Odisha Protection of Interests of Depositors (in Financial Establishments) Act, 2011 as per the order of the Honorable High Court. In this case earlier, Directors Rashmi Ranjan Paikray, Swetanga Patnaik and Subash Chandra Srichandan were arrested and forwarded to the court.
After registration of case, accused Director, Sukanta Mohapatra immediately absconded and was untraceable. He was arrested on Aug 1, 2016 from Rourkela and is being forwarded to OPID Court, Cuttack.
