Bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway (ECoR) has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Railway Zone in India to load 250 million tons (MT) of originating freight for the financial year 2024-25, completing this feat 11 days ahead of schedule, on March 21, 2024.
This achievement surpasses all previous records, solidifying ECoR’s status as the highest freight-loading zone in India. This is the second consecutive year ECoR has crossed the 250 MT mark.
In addition to its freight loading success, East Coast Railway has also managed to unload 228.3 MT of freight within its jurisdiction in the current fiscal year, marking a 2.6 percent increase over last year’s unloading figures of 222.4 MT as of March 21, 2023. Key contributors to this success include the coalfields of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited in Talcher, five major ports under ECoR’s jurisdiction (Paradeep, Dhamara, Visakhapatnam, Gangavaram, and Gopalpur), iron ore mines in Bailadila (Chhattisgarh) and Keonjhar District (Odisha), and major steel and aluminium industries.
ECoR’s record-breaking performance comes despite various operational challenges and is a result of meticulous planning, seamless coordination with industries and government sectors, and a relentless commitment to efficiency.
Under the leadership of General Manager Parmeshwar Funkwal, ECoR has continued to excel, with his strategic vision and emphasis on teamwork being central to the achievement.
The tireless efforts of ECoR’s workforce have played a crucial role in sustaining this impressive momentum, reinforcing the zone’s role as a key player in driving India’s economic growth and enhancing its logistics efficiency.
