Bhubaneswar: May 10: An elderly man was killed and his grandson was injured when they were attacked by a swarm of bees at Bankisahi village under Burhampur police limits of Balasore district.

After cleaning his backyard, Ramchandra Sa of the village of Banksahi reportedly set fire to the garbage pile. As a result of the smoke, honeybees emerged from a nearby tree and attacked the grandfather and his grandson.

Then, family members rushed Ramchandra and his grandson to the Sub Divisional Hospital in Nilgiri, where doctors pronounced Ramchandra dead. However, his grandson has been hospitalized and is currently receiving treatment.

In a similar incident, 18 people were injured after being attacked by bees in the Karanj village, located in the Kalyansinghpur block of the Rayagada district.

Under a tree, some villagers lit a fire while performing some sort of Puja. The smoke from the fire irritated the bees whose hive was located on the same tree. Following this, the bees that had emerged from the hive attacked the people performing puja. Three of the 18 people injured in the bee attack are children. All of the injured have been admitted to the Kalyansinghpur Community Health Centre.
