Bhubaneswar, April 19: The state-wide LED bulb distribution under the UJALA (Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All) scheme was initiated by Energy Minister Pranab Prakash Das here on Monday in a bid to save energy.
The LED bulbs distributed under the UJALA scheme is one third the market price and are of superior quality. The bulbs also have a free-replacement warranty of three years, said sources.
The UJALA is a Central scheme being implemented by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). The EESL has till date distributed over eight crore LED bulbs in a year across 125 cities, added sources.
Currently, the UJALA scheme is fully operational in Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Uttrakhand.
