Bhubaneswar: The untimely rain in Odisha has led to major losses to farmers. The low pressure related rain has damaged the ripe paddy. In some places, the ripe paddy had been harvested and stacked in the fields for collection, while in other places it is soaked due to continuous rain affecting the threshing areas.
The rain has left the fields waterlogged. The farmers’ worries have increased as it has been raining incessantly since two days. The untimely rain in Odisha has also created a threat to the vegetable crops.
From Kalahandi to Koraput, from Jagatsinghpur to Rayagada, the situation is similar. In Rayagada district, the unseasonal rain has deprived the farmers of a good yield. Farmers are worried about the paddy that has been harvested and kept on the field due to the incessant rain.
Reports say that paddy has been cultivated in 41 thousand hectares of agricultural land in the district of Rayagada this year. Although the mandi (market) has been opened in Rayagada district since December 17, the millers are not buying the paddy.
The continuous rainfall has become a reason of worry for the farmers as the harvest season of paddy has arrived. On the other hand, the farmers who had harvested some of the paddy are busy in transferring the crops to secure places.
